For Black History Month, Year 2 have been learning about the history of Notting Hill Carnival. We made our own headdresses and will perform a song and dance for Year 6 later in the week.
In Science we have been learning about the black scientist WIlliam Kamkwamba. We made windmills of different sizes and tested which worked more effectively.
As part of Black History Month, Year 2 have been learning about Jamaica. We looked where Jamaica is on a world map and also compared its climate to the UK. We then compared vegetation which grows naturally in Jamaica and the UK.
As part of our RE learning, Year 2 have been learning about the story of Rama and Sita. We acted the story out then sequenced the events. We then wrote a diary entry.
Year 2 have been learning lots about place value and tens and ones.
This year, Year 2 have been doing lots of learning around ten more and ten less. We have been using tens and ones to help us.

This is a great way to explore shapes while interacting with nature, building spatial awareness and fine motor skills! For this easy activity, all you need are sticks and rubber bands.
First, create 2D shapes with your sticks. How many shapes can you make? What are they called? Next, make flat 3D shapes. Then, challenge yourself to make 3D models of each shape using rubber bands to connect your sticks. Finally, use your imagination to transform your models into something new (tiny houses, space ships, boats, etc.)!

Year 1 Trip to the V&A Museum of Childhood

St Andrew's and Westgrove Primary School are currently working together on an Early Reading Project. The aims of which are to promote a love of reading in the Early Years. Year 1 went to visit Westgrove Reception classes last term. This term, it was Westgrove's turn to come to our school to talk about a book they had been reading.

Year 1 brought their teddy bears to school this week. We sketched them as part of our Art lesson. We will be making sculptures of our teddies later on in the term.
