Forest School Update

This week at Forest School, year 5 played an exciting game of ‘Predator Tracks Prey’ in the woods at Grovelands Park. Through behaving like a fox and a rabbit they hid and sought out in a bid for survival. They made connections between the game and how a predator will use their sense of smell and tracking to seek their prey. Some children found it exceptionally difficult laying still and being silent so that the foxes wouldn’t catch them! This prompted discussion about camouflage, speed, hiding, burrows etc.

Natural clay was found by some children lining the stream, which we will return to next week as they were particularly curious about this natural material. We enjoyed a snack and a hot chocolate as usual at base camp before heading back to school.

At school in the afternoon we focused on fire safety, safe seating and moving around the fire circle and setting the seating logs out safely.

Once satisfied the children show responsibility and respect for fire, the children will be shown how to light their own small fire. This may be two or three weeks away, dependent on the children.

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed swinging in the hammock, practising mindfulness and connecting with the sounds of nature and making their name biscuits.

Please remember to come to school wearing warm, waterproof clothes as the weather is changing and forest school will continue whatever the weather.
