Forest School - Reception Class
Today the theme of Forest School was Trees!
We made our way to Oakwood Park, not too far for little legs to walk, and spent time using our senses, discussing what we found. Reception did an excellent job finding signs of Spring on our stomping spotter sheet including a yellow flower, a bumble bee and a leaf!
Once in the woods we sat very still, hiding in the trees, to observe a pair of nesting Great Spotted woodpeckers. We could even hear the little chicks chirping in the hollow of the tree! Magic wands were created whilst the children learned to hold and move with sticks safely (hand over the top to keep in the magic!) Back at school after lunch, the second group spent time in pairs meeting a tree, using 4 of their senses (blindfolded) to then guess which tree they had been touching, smelling, together with some leaf identification.
They spent time choosing between other leaf themed activities before learning the special Clove Hitch knot, then threading leaves and sticks to take home.
Children left forest school today with a sense of achievement and adventure, they had spent valuable time exploring curiosity in nature and will be keen to show you their nature treasures at home!
