Forest School - Week commencing 15 June 2020

Forest School - Week commencing 8 June 2020

This week in Forest School the program was again designed with wellbeing and social connection being at the center. We used more mindfulness exercises which helped us notice nature and feel calm. We tried a humming bee breath to regulate our breathing which children found so calming they wanted to repeat again next week. ‘Sit spot’, a Japanese practice used in Shinrin Yoko, Forest Bathing meant children found 5 minutes of stillness and wrote their observations in nature journals or just observed.
Otherwise, we built habitats, made up new games, climbed trees, discussed our right to a name, balanced, asked questions, tie dyed fabric with raspberries, found huge spiders!, used tools safely, made plans for next week - our final week.
A busy and brilliant day!

Forest School - Week commencing 1 June 2020

This week at forest school we played games to get used to the space we needed to adopt - physical distancing. We shared how we were feeling today using natural objects and used mindfulness exercises to tune into our environment. Some of Group A chose to begin the journal we are keeping at Forest School, poems were made titled ‘Forest School, a good time in hard times’, plants and trees were identified. Jude loved being invited to play a game with some students, they shared the rules and were excellent teachers.
Some physical energy was acquired, we used the slack line to work on our balance. We used tools for green wood work - drilling holes and whittling some hazel to make a Spinner. We discussed and practiced Growth Mindset, working hard at things which challenged us, encouraging our friends and persevering.
We used handwashing stations around the field to wash our hands frequently, we had our own tools, folders for recording equipment and mats to sit on. We felt safe and happy that we could come to school. Children shared their gratitude for each other, for the sun, the birds, the teachers who had seen them today.
Until next week!
