Year 4 St Julian

Owl City - In Christ Alone - WITH LYRICS!

Class four are learning another worship song this week called In Christ Alone (originally by Chris Tomlin) as covered by Owl City. The children will be creating their own actions to praise with this song.

This week we learnt about doubting Thomas and how Jesus blessed those who did not see him to believe in him. We talked in depth about how important it is to share our hope and faith at all times and in all situations. It is especially important in times of transition to have hope and faith in the future.

Our scripture was from John 20:24-29 King James Version (KJV)
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Every blessing.

Year four enjoyed a religious retreat recently with our visitor Emily who encouraged us all to reflect on Psalm 23 "The Lord Is My Shepherd". The children produced some thought provoking work of which I was very impressed with. Take a look...

Well done to Harry who won the Year 4 best dressed competition. He came as Marty McFly from the classic 80's film Back To The Future. The children thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing their class dance and did a fabulous job of performing it. I tried to embrace my inner 80's self and tried to rock the Sandy look from Grease!

During Year 4's combined Science and Design and Technology lessons Year 4 have been creating gardening mats out of recycled plastic bags. The children created their own loom and used a weaving technique. Take a look at their work so far...

Cornerstone - Cornerstone - Hillsong Live 2012 - (HD) (With Lyrics)

Our new song, Cornerstone, used in collective worship this week has helped us to bible Journal. It has also helped us to share moments for reflection and thanks. One pupil placed the prayer bead on the prayer string today and said "this represents the body and bread of Christ" - inspired by today's reading. This week our scripture reading was Luke 9: 11-17

11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing. 12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” 13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.” They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

Every Blessing

Building Bridges - Year 4's designs for a new bridge over The River Thames

Building Bridges

This week we have combined our topic of London with Design and Technology. The children have been looking at the bridges across the River Thames and learning about the structure of them. Ask your child if they can name them. As a result the children have been designing their very own bridge to cross the River Thames. After designing their bridge in their books they attempted to make them out of dry spaghetti and mini marshmallows. Take a look...

In RE year 4 have been looking at how Christians around the world worship. We have learnt than in some places Christians are forbidden to worship in public. In groups we explored how this would make us feel if we were not allowed to express ourselves freely. The children have created freeze frames to demonstrate their emotions and feelings.

In Collective Worship Year 4 have been learning My Lighthouse with lyrics (by Rend Collective)

This is a catchy alternative song to sing for Collective Worship and has some great actions to go along with it. Ask your child to teach you the actions. Enjoy.

Year 4 Collective Worship songs - Owl City - My Everything (Lyrics)

During Collective Worship year 4 have been listen to and singing a variety of songs. This particular song has captured year 4's creative curiosity to learn Makaton Sign Language as an expressive dance form. Enjoy.

Where does all the food go? Year 4 making the digestive system...

Welcome to Year 4 St Julian Class!

In science this term Year 4 have been learning about where the food goes when we eat it. We have also learnt about our teeth and how to look after them. Look at the experiment (eggsperiment) to show the effect of sugary and acidic drinks on the enamel on our teeth. It was very eggciting frown
