All the butterflies have emerged from their chrysalises! Look at their beautiful orange spotty wings!!! This morning I have added some orange slices for the butterflies to begin to feed on!
First job is to make food for the butterflies - Think “rotten” when choosing butterfly food. Butterflies like a variety of food sources, especially over-ripe fruit and rotting vegetation. In the meantime I've made for them a sugary water solution which is 4 parts water and 1 part sugar.
The first two butterflies have hatched!!! What an amazing surprise today. One thing that is fascinating is that when butterflies emerge from their chrysalis they release a red liquid. The red blotches however are not blood, as butterflies do not bleed but when they emerge from their chrysalis, they release stored up waste products, which are often reddish like blood.
Third post at home - I've moved the chrysalises in to their new spacious home! Now the waiting game, for them to hatch into beautiful butterflies.
Second Post at home with Miss Demetriou- It has been around 14 days since our caterpillars arrived at school as tiny caterpillars and they have all finally started to turn into chrysalises. The penultimate stage before they become butterflies!!!
First post at home with Miss Demetriou: watch our caterpillars grow! I would hate it if the children did not get the chance to observe the metamorphosis of these amazing creatures. Please keep coming back for more updates!
When the caterpillars first arrived they were very tiny, but not for long!
Heritage Coffee shop Art Installation- Go and have a hot drink and admire the artwork created by us in Reception inspired by Vincent Van Gogh.
