Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Use of PE and Sports Grant

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games gave us an opportunity to inspire the nation to enjoy sport. The government is determined to secure a significant and lasting legacy from the games, and to develop children’s enjoyment of sport and physical activity from an early age.

Sport should be an important part of any school. Great schools have long known that sporting excellence and participation, alongside strong cultural opportunities, go hand in hand with high academic standards.

Schools, teachers and sporting bodies all agree that particular support is required for primary schools. As a result the Prime Minister announced £300m worth of funding for primary school PE and sport.

At St Andrew’s Southgate, we ensure that the money is used for all students to benefit, regardless of sporting ability and that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development. We have therefore used this funding in the following ways:

PE and Sport Premium 2016-2017

AREA OF FOCUS 1

  • To continue to raise the profile and quality of Physical Education

Evidence

  • Lesson observations.
  • Outcome of pupils’ work.
  • Photo/video evidence uploaded to shared drive.

Action Plan

  • Employ specialist teachers of Physical Education.
  • Continued Staff CPD to develop and maintain standards of provision.
  • Release time for PE leader to focus on developing PE by attending subject leader training.
  • To continue links with Southgate College to provide a base for their NVQ Sports Leadership students to complete their placement hours.
  • To complete in all Borough events including the Gymnastics Festival.
  • To be awarded the  ‘Sainsbury’s Kitemark Gold Award’ for the quality of sporting provision
  • To ensure a range of sporting activities are available for break times and lunchtimes
  • Play leader training

 

Effective Use of the Funding

  • Employment of a professional sports coach to deliver high quality weekly PE sessions to three classes in line with national curriculum objectives.
  • PE lead released to attend borough meetings and courses.
  • Coach from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation delivering weekly multi-skills sessions alongside class teachers for Years 1, 2 and 3 in the autumn term.

  • More confident and competent teachers and teaching assistants.
  • Improved quality of teaching and learning.
  • Enhanced inclusive curriculum provision.
  • Improved pupil’s attitudes to PE and health & well being.
  • Positive impact on whole school improvement.
  • Awarding of the ‘Sainsbury’s Kitemark Gold Award’ for the quality of sporting provision in 2015/16

 

 

Funding Breakdown

  • £1,300 Enfield PE Team SLA
  • £2,340 for professional coach from ‘Active Feet Active Minds’ (3 Hours at £26.00 = £78.00 x 30 weeks)
  • £2000 for outdoor PE climbing apparatus in Early Years

 

AREA OF FOCUS 2

  • To increase the amount and range of extracurricular sporting opportunities for our pupils.

Evidence

  • Increased number of sporting clubs.
  • Increased numbers of participating children across the school.

Action Plan

  • Review the quality of our extra-curricular provision.
  • Ensure a range of high quality, inclusive activities are offered based upon pupil needs and interests (pupil voice).
  • Provide greater opportunities to engage the least active pupils.
  • Establish partnerships and links with local clubs.
  • Ensure access to on-site facilities before and after the school day.
  • PE Coordinator to run an additional extracurricular club.
  • Two members of staff to run a dance club in preparation for the Enfield Dance Festival 2017.
  • Provide pupils with opportunities to experience world class sporting events and facilities.

Effective Use of the Funding

  • Employing local coaches to provide extracurricular sporting opportunities.
  • Provide high quality professional learning for teaching staff to run clubs.
  • 8 Sports Captains visited 2016 Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Show court tickets won via LTA schools ballot.

Impact

  • Enhanced, extended, inclusive extracurricular provision.
  • Increased pupil participation and experiences.
  • Boys’ football team visit to the new Tottenham Hotspur training facility.
  • More competent and confident staff.
  • Enhanced quality of delivery of activities.
  • Positive attitudes to health and well-being.
  • Improved behaviour and attendance and reduction of low level disruption.
  • Clearer talent pathways.
  • Ensuring strong, sustainable links to the 2012 Games Legacy and Olympic and Paralympic values.
  • Positive impact on whole school improvement.

 

Funding Breakdown

  • £210 – Wimbledon tickets won via the LTA schools ballot.
  • £1,560 for professional coach from ‘Active Feet Active Minds’ to run a range of sports clubs before school and during lunchtimes (2 Hours at £26.00 = £52.00 x 30 weeks).

 

AREA OF FOCUS 3

  • To increase participation and success in competitions

Evidence

  • Calendar of events entered/fixture lists
  • Number of participating pupils

Action Plan

  • Review of previous year’s entry to competitions and events.
  • Engage with PE team regarding events and opportunities.
  • Engage more staff/parents/volunteers.
  • Improve links with other local schools.
  • Increase the number of sports teams.
  • Introduce inter-house competition within school.

Effective Use of the Funding

  • Buy into local authority competitive sporting network.
  • Release time for PE leader to accompany pupils to sporting events/competitions.
  • Purchasing resources for Enfield Dance Festival 2017.
  • Mini bus hire for transportation to events.

Impact

  • Increased pupil participation.
  • Boys football team entered into league and cup competitions.
  • Girls football team to play competitive league and cup fixtures for the first time
  • Clearer talent pathways.
  • Entry into the Enfield Dance Festival.
  • Entry into the Borough Gymnastics Festival for the first time.
  • Entry into district athletics event at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
  • Joined a local schools partnership to provide opportunities for our pupils to enter events such as cross country, multi-skills events and swimming gala.

Funding Breakdown

  • £1,050 – LA run sports events (Gold Package £5 per pupil)
  • £100 – Dance Festival Resources
  • £500- Mini bus hire for the events over the year
